The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed the arrest of two watchmen at Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School over an alleged sexual assault involving a student.

In a statement dated August 20, 2026, the GES said it had received a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a student and the two watchmen at the school.

The Service said preliminary information indicated that the student is a special needs student who is on medication.

According to the GES, the student reportedly suffered a relapse on the day of the alleged incident and required medical attention.

“It was during this period that the alleged incident occurred,” the Service said.

The two watchmen have since been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation, while the school’s management has interdicted them with immediate effect.

The GES said investigations into the matter were ongoing and that, depending on their outcome, the appropriate sanctions would be applied in accordance with the Service’s Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.

It also cautioned staff of the Service to uphold professional standards and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of students.

“Management further cautions that the Service will not tolerate any conduct that compromises the safety and wellbeing of students,” the statement said.

The GES assured parents, guardians and the public that the matter was being treated with the seriousness it deserved.
