The campaign team of incarcerated former Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has picked up nomination forms on his behalf as part of the formal nomination process for the party’s internal elections.

The team said it collected the forms on Thursday to formally complete the nomination process for Boasiako, who is currently serving a prison sentence.

“This is simply to formally complete the nomination process on his behalf,” the campaign team said in a statement.

The team expressed confidence in Boasiako’s campaign, saying: “With God and the people behind us, we move.”

It also thanked supporters for their prayers, dedication and continued commitment to the campaign.

The development comes as the NPP progresses with preparations for its internal elections, with aspirants required to complete various stages of the nomination process.

Boasiako, a prominent figure in the NPP’s Ashanti Region, has retained a strong following among sections of the party despite his incarceration.

His campaign has continued to operate through his supporters and campaign team while he remains in prison.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has extended by two days the deadline for aspirants to file completed nomination forms for its 2026 National Officers Elections.

The party’s National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) said the filing period, originally scheduled to end on Thursday, 27 August, will now run until Saturday, 29 August 2026.

The extension follows what the committee described as a “significant level of interest” in the elections.

In a statement dated Friday, 21 August, NOEC said 44 aspirants had picked up nomination forms as of the close of nominations activities on Thursday, 20 August.

The committee said the additional time was intended to facilitate an orderly filing process and give aspirants adequate opportunity to submit and have their nomination documents verified.

“The period for the filing of completed nomination forms for the 2026 National Officers Elections has been extended by two (2) days,” the committee said.

The extension does not affect the subsequent stages of the election timetable, with vetting still scheduled to begin on 31 August and continue until 3 September.

The committee is scheduled to publish the results of the vetting exercise on September 5, followed by an appeals period from 6 to 7 September.

The National Officers Elections are scheduled for 3 October 2026.

NOEC said it remained committed to conducting the elections in a manner that is fair, transparent, orderly and credible, while providing all aspirants with equal opportunity to participate.

The filing of nomination forms follows the opening of nominations on August 17.

The revised timetable provides for filing from August 23 to 29, vetting from August 31 to September 3, publication of vetting results on September 5 and the election of national officers on October 3.
