The Latest Injury Updates Impacting Fantasy Football Quarterbacks
Here are the latest injury updates on Patrick Mahomes, Jayden Daniels, Kyler Murray and other fantasy quarterbacks and how they could shape 2026 draft boards.

Fantasy football managers still have several quarterback injury situations to monitor as 2026 drafts pick up steam. Patrick Mahomes’ knee recovery creates the most impactful scenario for fantasy. Recent progress has removed most health concerns surrounding Daniel Jones, Deshaun Watson, Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels, Kyler Murray, and Cam Ward.
These updates will affect fantasy draft plans and early-season expectations.
Quarterback Injury Updates
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
Full participation throughout training camp continues to strengthen Mahomes’ outlook roughly eight months after surgery to repair the torn ACL and LCL in his left knee. He remained unrestricted during Kansas City’s Aug. 18 practice and produced the play of the day on a touchdown pass, with the Chiefs describing his recovery as continuing to look outstanding. Kansas City will keep Mahomes out of another preseason game as a precaution, and he remains on track for Week 1. Some early-season reduction in rushing or improvisational movement remains possible, but his recovery has progressed far enough to make him a much safer fringe QB1.

Daniel Jones, Indianapolis Colts
Jones has progressed much faster than the original outlook following his December Achilles rupture. Indianapolis plans to keep Jones out of at least the first two preseason games as a precaution, with head coach Shane Steichen saying he does not want to take unnecessary chances with his recovering Achilles. The medical staff fully cleared Jones for training camp, and he handled team repetitions without an apparent limitation. Some decline in rushing volume or explosiveness remains likely, but Jones no longer should be viewed as an uncertain early-season option. His fantasy ceiling still depends on how much mobility he regains after contact begins, and it’s wise to let someone else take on the risk given how deep the backup pool is in 2026.
Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta Falcons
Nearly nine months after undergoing reconstruction of his partially torn left ACL, Penix remains limited to seven-on-seven work and still has not been cleared for 11-on-11 drills. Those restrictions continued during Atlanta’s Aug. 19 joint practice with Indianapolis, leaving Tua Tagovailoa to handle the full-team repetitions. Head coach Kevin Stefanski insists the quarterback competition remains open, but Penix cannot realistically close the gap until he receives full medical clearance and begins taking regular team reps. His recovery is progressing, though the combination of continued limitations and Tagovailoa’s significant head start makes Penix difficult to justify outside of deep superflex and best-ball formats.
