GoldBod Rejects GH¢1 Billion Overdraft Allegation

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has rejected claims that it owes the Bank of Ghana (BoG) an unpaid overdraft of GH¢1 billion, describing the allegation as “false” and part of what it considers a deliberate smear campaign against the institution.
The allegation was reportedly made by the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Hon. Dr. Gideon Boako.
In a statement signed by its Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minkah, GoldBod said it has never taken a loan, overdraft or any other debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution since its establishment.
“For the records, the GoldBod has never at any time since its establishment taken a loan, overdraft or any debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution whatsoever,” the statement said.
GoldBod described the claim attributed to Dr. Boako as “contrived” and urged the public to treat it with “utmost contempt.”
The institution further called on the Tano South MP to unequivocally retract the allegation and apologise for what it described as the dissemination of false information.
The statement comes amid growing public discussion about GoldBod’s financial operations and its relationship with the Bank of Ghana.
GoldBod maintained that the GH¢1 billion overdraft claim has no basis and reiterated that it has not contracted any such debt with the central bank or other financial institutions.
