Former president and flagbearer of the opposition NDC, John Dramani Mahama has issued a statement directing his team to provide assistance to the government in any way possible “if requested”.
“I have instructed my communications team and my public health advisors to support efforts by the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health. I have asked all former appointees of my administration who assisted in our readiness efforts during the Ebola epidemic to aid the government in any way they can if requested to do so.” the statement read on his official Twitter timeline.
This comes at a time when the government is doing everything possible to contain a possible spread of Covid-19, the deadly respiratory disease that has put the entire world in panic-mode.
Former President Mahama was the leader of Ghana during the Ebola epidemic that claimed 11,310 lives from a total of 28,616 cases. The death rate of Ebola made it one of the most deadly viruses ever and luckily Ghana did not record a single case of the viral disease that came with it.
Unlike Mahama, Nana Akufo-Addo’s government has already recorded six (6) cases of Covid-19. The disease has recorded over 169,300 with about 6,500 deaths globally.
