President Akufo-Addo releases guidelines for National Day of Fasting and Prayer

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has released guidelines for fasting and prayers on Wednesday, March 25. The president as part of the guidelines is advising Christians and Muslims in the country to renounce all sinful ways and repent of all wrongdoing before the national fast.

The president declared the national day of fasting and prayer during his last address to the nation on the COVID-19 and the way forward.

For Christians

Christians are to be guided by Isaiah 58:3-9 as supplementary reading for the day. The prayer points for Christians are as follows:

  1. Prayer of thanksgiving for the peace the nation has enjoyed so far. (Psalm 103:1-3, Philippians 4:6)
  2. Prayer of forgiveness of sins on behalf of the nation and the world at large. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
  3. Pray for God’s intervention to stop this pandemic. (Psalm 91:3, Psalm 50:15)
  4. Prayer for the protection of the healthcare team in Ghana and the world. (Psalm 46:1-3)
  5. Pray that God will give medics and scientists the needed wisdom and knowledge to develop vaccines that can combat this coronavirus as soon as possible. (Luke 1:37, Exodus 31:1-3)
  6. Pray that God will heal those infected with the coronavirus. (Psalm 103:3, Isaiah 54:8)
  7. Pray that God will use this pandemic to draw all people in Ghana and the world to Himself. (Numbers 21:4-9, John 3:14-15)
  8. Pray that God will use this pandemic to strengthen all families in Ghana and the world. (Romans 8:28)
  9. Pray against any intention of the devil to manipulate the current situation against Christianity and God-fearing people in Ghana and the world. (Ephesians 6:10-17, Isaiah 54: 16-17)
  10. Pray for wisdom for the president and the other national leaders as they take appropriate and timely decisions in managing the pandemic for the good of the nation as a whole. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

For Muslims

The prayer points for Muslims are as follows:

  1. Prayer of thanksgiving for the peace the nation has enjoyed so far. (Baqara-Q:2:126)
  2. Prayer of forgiveness of sins on behalf of the nation and the world at large. (Baqara-Q:2:54;Q:2:264;Q:2:286)
  3. Pray for Allah’s intervention to stop this pandemic. (Falaq-Q:113;Nas-Q:114)
  4. Prayer for the protection of the healthcare team in Ghana and the world. (Baqara-Q:257;Al-Imran-Q:3:150)
  5. Pray that Allah will give medics and scientists the needed wisdom and knowledge to develop vaccines that can combat this coronavirus as soon as possible. (Baqara-Q:2:32;Q:2:269;Al-Israa-Q:17:39)
  6. Pray that Allah will heal those infected with the coronavirus. (Al-Israa-Q:17:82;Yunus-Q:10:57;Al-Imran-Q:3:49)
  7. Pray that Allah will use this pandemic to draw all people in Ghana and the world to Himself. (Tawbat-Q:9:104;Hud-Q:11:52)
  8. Pray that Allah will use this pandemic to strengthen all families in Ghana and the world. (Inshirah-Q:94)
  9. Pray against any intention of the devil to manipulate the current situation against Muslims and God-fearing people in Ghana and the world. (Falaq-Q:113;Nas-Q:114)
  10. Pray for wisdom for the president and the other national leaders as they take appropriate and timely decisions in managing the pandemic for the good of the nation as a whole. (Anbiyaa-Q:21:73;Sajda-Q:32:24)
