The Ghana Police Service has apprehended two additional individuals in connection with the brutal lynching of a 24-year-old Liberian man at Sakumono-Lashibi.

The victim, Austin Tengbeh, an Information Technology specialist, was fatally attacked by a mob on Friday, February 27.

Police reports indicate that the Sakumono District Patrol Team responded promptly to a distress call from an anonymous source reporting that a man had been severely beaten near an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) facility at Lashibi.

On arrival, officers found Tengbeh unconscious with visible injuries to his neck and head. Initial investigations suggest that the mob had mistaken him for a thief.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday, March 9, 2026, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, confirmed that the Homicide Unit had taken over the case.

“The Homicide Unit is leading investigations into the tragic death of Austin Tengbeh, and all necessary steps are being taken to bring the perpetrators to justice,” she stated. She added that the case, including a machete exhibit and three initial remand suspects, was formally referred to the Homicide Unit on March 2.

COP Donkor explained that five suspects are now in custody. Vincent Adzikah, Francis Amuzu, and William Anderson were arrested at the scene on February 27. Enoch Mensah, who initially evaded arrest, was taken into custody on March 4, while Nana Agyenim Boateng, believed to have instigated the attack, was also remanded.

“Five suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the case,” she confirmed. All are expected to appear before the Baatsona District Court on March 16, 2026.

A post-mortem was conducted on March 5 following identification by Tengbeh’s brother-in-law, with a full autopsy report pending completion of toxicology results.

The Police Service condemned the act of mob justice and urged the public to report criminal activity through proper channels rather than taking the law into their own hands.
