The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of reversing its position on the LGBTQ bill after winning the elections.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, he alleged that the party used the issue as campaign propaganda.

Rev. Fordjour questioned why President John Dramani Mahama has not acted on the bill, despite earlier assurances that he would have signed it if in office.

He further criticised the government’s current focus on basic needs, arguing that similar conditions existed previously when strong positions were taken on the matter.

“After the NDC won the elections, they reversed their stance on LGBTQ issues. They made it appear as though the NPP and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were in favour of LGBTQ rights. They even suggested that the bill had been sent to Akufo-Addo from Parliament.

“If that were the case, then the bill should have been included in the handing-over documents for Mahama to assent to. However, Mahama later stated that due to an injunction, the bill was never sent to the president.

“Nonetheless, the NDC used this narrative as propaganda to win the elections,” he said.
