A 23-year-old palm wine tapper has been arrested at Bibiani Subrinkwanta in the Western North Region in connection with a fire that killed three members of the same family.
Police identified the suspect as Numatekpor Kwaku, also known as “On God”.
The victims are reported to be his 19-year-old girlfriend, a student of Queen Senior High School, her 59-year-old mother, and her 21-year-old sister.
According to police and residents, tensions had developed between the suspect and the family after they reportedly advised him to stay away from the young woman due to her status as a student and their disapproval of the relationship.
The suspect is alleged to have threatened to set the house ablaze if he was prevented from marrying her.
Authorities say that threat is believed to have been carried out, resulting in a fire that claimed the three lives.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations as officers work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
