Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for unity within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging members to resolve internal grievances privately as political positioning begins ahead of the 2028 elections.

Speaking at a student engagement at the African University of Communications and Business, he said some lawmakers from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) were facing difficulties, including challenges with resources for parliamentary work, but were unwilling to speak publicly about them.

“I am a leader and so I know what is going on in there,” he said, adding that if similar issues were affecting the NPP, “it would have been the other way round.”

 “Let’s try to resolve our grievances internally and move ahead,” the Effutu MP further stated warning that internal divisions could discourage sacrifice and commitment within the party.

Afenyo-Markin also criticised the NDC, claiming the party lacks a clear candidate for the 2028 elections.

He further argued that the transition from President John Mahama’s tenure would leave the party without a defined successor, expressing confidence in former vice president Mahamudu Bawumia.

“NDC has no candidate in 2028,…[But] God has given us Dr Bawumia,” he declared.

The Minority Leader further appealed for unity and reconciliation within his party, urging members to support former appointees of the previous administration and sustain momentum behind key policy initiatives such as Free Senior High School.

“We should not wash our dirty linen outside,” he said, adding that internal cohesion was essential for electoral success. “If we unite… Bawumia shall win power.”
