Britney Spears checks into rehab after DUI arrest

American pop star Britney Spears has voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility weeks after being arrested in California on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Her representative confirmed on Sunday that the singer had checked into treatment, describing the decision as part of efforts to address recent events and support her well-being. The development comes ahead of her scheduled court appearance in California later this month.

Spears was arrested on 4 March after officers from the California Highway Patrol said she was driving “erratically at a high rate of speed.” Authorities said she showed signs of impairment and underwent field sobriety tests after being stopped.

Following the incident, her representative described the situation as “completely inexcusable” and said her family would work on a “needed plan” to support her recovery.

One of the most successful pop stars of her generation, Spears is known for global hits such as “…Baby One More Time” and “Toxic.”

She was previously placed under a conservatorship for 13 years until 2021, a legal arrangement that controlled her personal and financial affairs before it was terminated after years of public scrutiny.
