Renewed attention has been drawn to the 2015 death of a Scottish woman in Koforidua following new allegations against Ghanaian preacher Eric Asaiah Adusah.

Charmain Speirs, 41, was found dead in a hotel bathroom while visiting Ghana with her husband, Adusah, months after their marriage.

At the time, she was pregnant and had travelled to Ghana for church-related activities linked to Adusah’s ministry.

An autopsy conducted in Ghana cited a suspected heroin overdose, but investigators were unable to establish how the substance entered her system. Her family has consistently rejected the findings, insisting she had no history of drug use.

Adusah was initially charged with murder, but the case was later dismissed due to lack of evidence. A UK inquest in 2016 also returned an open verdict.

The case has resurfaced following a recent documentary by the BBC, which features new claims from Speirs’ son, Isaac Speirs.

According to the documentary, he alleges that he witnessed physical abuse involving his mother prior to her death.

Additional accounts from individuals described as former partners of Adusah also raise concerns about alleged controlling behaviour.

Adusah, who is reported to be living in the United States, has denied any wrongdoing and has previously indicated his willingness to cooperate with investigations.

Meanwhile, Speirs’ mother, Linda Speirs, is calling for the case to be reopened, urging authorities in Ghana to review the evidence.
