The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) recorded a strong bullish session on Tuesday, with market capitalisation crossing the GH¢252 billion mark as renewed investor interest in banking, insurance, and telecommunications stocks drove gains across the bourse.
Data from the 7,190th trading session, held on April 14, 2026, showed that market capitalisation rose to GH¢252.05 billion, up from GH¢248.26 billion on the previous trading day—representing an increase of nearly GH¢3.8 billion in a single session.
The GSE Composite Index advanced by 114.75 points to close at 13,270.23, while the GSE Financial Stocks Index gained 90.14 points to settle at 8,039.92, reflecting strong momentum in financial equities.
Total trading volume reached 1,875,940 shares, with a market value of GH¢8.61 million.
The rally was led by strong performances in key financial and telecom counters. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) surged by GH¢0.14 to GH¢1.81, while SIC Insurance Company gained GH¢0.18 to close at GH¢3.90.
Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) rose by GH¢0.05 to GH¢5.55 and remained the most actively traded stock, recording 769,907 shares and contributing over GH¢4.27 million in value.
GCB Bank also gained GH¢0.05 to close at GH¢26.01, reflecting continued investor confidence in the banking sector.
Cal Bank recorded the highest volume of the session, with 938,888 shares traded, although it closed unchanged at GH¢0.75.
Despite the overall bullish sentiment, some stocks ended the session in decline. Ecobank Ghana PLC fell by GH¢0.55 to GH¢48.90, while Guinness Ghana Breweries dropped GH¢0.20 to GH¢15.30.
Republic Bank Ghana and Standard Chartered Bank Ghana also recorded marginal losses.
Meanwhile, several counters remained unchanged, including Access Bank Ghana, Agricultural Development Bank, AngloGold Ashanti, GOIL, Unilever Ghana, and Tullow Oil. On the Ghana Alternative Market, all listed equities closed flat.
Benso Palm Plantation maintained its GH¢100.00 price level, with no trading activity recorded.
The GSE Composite Index has now gained 51.31% since the start of the year, while the Financial Stocks Index is up 73.01%, underscoring sustained investor confidence in the local equity market.
Tuesday’s performance also saw the benchmark index close above the 13,200-point level for the first time since the March correction, signalling renewed bullish sentiment across key sectors.
