Award-winning Ghanaian singer-songwriter Gyakie has shared her thoughts on her three nominations at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards during an interview on Penpensiwa on AsaasePa, hosted by Obomengniibaa Nana Akua.
The 2026 TGMA is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at the Grand Arena, following a confirmed venue change by organisers.
She described this year’s awards night as highly competitive and one she is looking forward to, noting that every category is tightly contested and filled with deserving nominees, making the edition a memorable one.
“I’m very excited about this one. I know the evening is going to be iconic because every category is tight. It’s full of people who deserve it. This particular TGMA is going to be a memorable one,” she said.
Gyakie is nominated for her 17-track album After Midnight and the song Sankofa, and believes both projects deserve recognition.
“If After Midnight wins Album of the Year, that would be very sweet. Sankofa also did well and deserves recognition. I’ve also put in a strong effort in the Afrobeats category. If I win any of the awards, I believe I deserve it,” she said.
She also spoke about Y2K Love featuring Omar Sterling, explaining that she sampled her father, highlife legend Nana Acheampong, because the song’s message aligned with his musical legacy.
On her collaboration with Kuami Eugene on Stranger off his Sweet Boy EP, she said the connection was instant, adding that the song felt right from the first listen.
Away from music, she briefly addressed her relationship status, saying, “I’m single. If you like me, just text me. If you see me, tell me; you never know where it could go.”
Gyakie remains one of the standout nominees heading into this year’s TGMA, with anticipation building ahead of the awards night at the Grand Arena.
