Petrol, diesel price floors to rise from September 1 as NPA announces new pricing window
Petrol’s minimum price is set to increase by 61 pesewas per litre while diesel rises by 41 pesewas, although actual pump prices will depend on individual oil marketing companies.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has approved new minimum price floors for petroleum products for the September 1 to September 16, 2026 pricing window, setting the stage for possible increases at fuel pumps across Ghana.
Under the new pricing window, the minimum price for petrol will rise from GH¢13.92 per litre to GH¢14.53 per litre, representing an increase of 61 pesewas, or about 4.4%.
Diesel’s minimum price will also increase from GH¢15.19 per litre to GH¢15.60 per litre, a rise of 41 pesewas, or approximately 2.7%.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), however, will record a marginal reduction, with its price floor moving from GH¢10.98 per kilogramme to GH¢10.85 per kilogramme.
The new price floors are expected to take effect nationwide from September 1 and remain applicable through the first petroleum pricing window of the month.
The figures, however, do not necessarily represent the final prices motorists will pay at filling stations.
The NPA price floor serves as the regulatory minimum below which petroleum products should not be sold, while individual Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) determine their final pump prices after taking into account trading, operational, marketer and dealer margins.
This means pump prices could vary significantly from one filling station to another even after the new pricing window takes effect.
Some OMCs may also choose to absorb part of the increase or maintain existing prices temporarily, depending on their stock position and commercial strategy.
The development will be closely watched by motorists and businesses because fuel prices remain a major driver of transport fares, logistics costs and the broader cost of living.
Attention will also be on the price of diesel following the government’s GH¢2-per-litre intervention announced for August.
As of the latest available information, there had been no confirmation that the intervention would be extended into September, raising questions about whether diesel prices could face additional upward pressure once the new pricing window begins.
