Ashanti Region: police inspector interdicted over alleged defilement of 14-year-old daughter

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command says it is investigating a case of alleged defilement and incest involving a serving police officer stationed at Mamponteng in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement, the Command identified the officer as Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, who is attached to the Mamponteng District Police Command.

The complaint was filed on 4 November 2025, by a woman identified as Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua in the Eastern Region, acting on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, who alleges she was sexually abused by her biological father.

The victim was referred to a government health facility for medical examination to support investigations, police said.

According to the statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit in Mampong on 9 May 2026 (Ref No. ASHNR/PA/120/9), the suspect reported himself to the Agona Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) on 20 February 2026, where he was arrested and cautioned.

He reportedly denied the allegations during interrogation and was subsequently granted enquiry bail, with instructions to report periodically to investigators.

The police officer has since been interdicted to allow for further investigations.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command said the case remains under active investigation and assured the public of a thorough process.

It added that further updates would be communicated in due course.
