General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Justin Frimpong Kodua has said the party’s polling station executive elections are underway nationwide, despite isolated challenges in some constituencies.

“We have started the polling station elections… so far we have been getting overwhelming positive feedback though there are few isolated challenges in some constituencies,” Kodua said in a social media message on Sunday (10 May).

He added that party election committees at both polling station and constituency levels would address any emerging issues, urging calm and transparency throughout the process.

“Please let’s continue to conduct a free, fair and transparent election,” he said.

His comments come as the party’s internal elections, scheduled to run from 10 May to 16 May, 2026, face disruptions in some areas.

In the Bunkpurugu constituency in the North East Region, ballot papers and voter registers were reportedly destroyed after tensions erupted during the exercise.

The incident occurred despite a High Court injunction in Nalerigu restraining the NPP from holding the elections in the constituency for 10 days.

The injunction followed a lawsuit filed by Konlan Yenuyiab and 16 others, who challenged the process over alleged wrongful disqualification of aspirants and breaches of internal party rules and due process.

Court documents warned that proceeding with the elections could cause “irreparable harm” and potentially render any future ruling ineffective.

Despite the order, aggrieved party members reportedly clashed with officials who proceeded with the exercise, leading to the destruction of electoral materials, including ballot papers and voter registers.
