A police inspector in the Ashanti Region has been interdicted and remanded into custody over his alleged involvement in a robbery attack targeting a mobile money vendor in Kumasi, police said on Monday.

The suspect, Inspector Bright Appiah Dankwah, who was stationed at the Asuoyeboah Police Station, was arrested by the Ashanti Regional Anti-Robbery Unit following what authorities described as an intelligence-led operation.

Police said a search conducted at the officer’s residence uncovered a Bruni Model 92 gas pistol, ammunition and cash amounting to 9,835 Ghana cedis.

In a statement, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said the officer had been interdicted pending the outcome of investigations.

Dankwah appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Monday and was remanded into police custody. He is expected to reappear before the court on 29 May.

Police did not immediately provide details of the alleged robbery incident or indicate whether additional suspects were being pursued.

The case adds to growing public scrutiny over criminal allegations involving members of Ghana’s security services, particularly in cases linked to armed robbery and attacks on mobile money vendors, who have increasingly become targets for violent crime.
