A Nigerian media personality and activist has completed an 11-day bicycle journey from Lagos to Accra, using the cross-border ride to promote youth political participation and civic engagement ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, MC Jekabeche, media personality and activist, APC youth network West Africa, said the journey was designed to draw attention to the role of young people in shaping governance across West Africa.

He said the decision to travel by bicycle rather than conventional transport was intentional, aimed at attracting public attention and amplifying his message.

“When you want to reach people and you don’t have the means, you must do something that will draw attention,” he said.

The activist said his campaign is focused on encouraging Nigerians living across West Africa to return home and participate in the electoral process.

He disclosed that he made stops in countries including Benin and Togo, as well as Ghanaian border towns such as Aflao, where he engaged members of the Nigerian diaspora on civic responsibility.

According to him, the response from Nigerians encountered along the route has been largely positive, with many expressing willingness to return home to vote.

The journey, he added, was driven by a belief that young Africans must move beyond online engagement and take an active role in governance.

“There is a need to mobilise people physically and directly,” he said.

He is expected to spend a few days in Ghana engaging Nigerian communities before continuing advocacy activities.

The initiative highlights growing efforts by youth actors in the region to use unconventional methods to drive political awareness and participation.
