GoldBlock Party (GBP), a community-driven cultural platform based in Accra, is marking six years of shaping immersive entertainment experiences with the launch of a new festival brand dubbed Purple, aimed at celebrating African dance music, youth culture, and creative expression.

The new initiative is positioned as the next phase of GBP’s evolution, expanding its focus beyond events in Accra to a broader international cultural platform connecting Africa and its diaspora.

Purple is designed as a multidisciplinary festival experience that brings together music, fashion, food, visual arts, and youth-driven creative expression, with African dance music at its core.

Although rooted in Ghana through GBP’s six-year cultural footprint, the festival will debut in Lagos before making its Ghana entry in Accra. Subsequent editions are expected to be hosted in Abuja, Houston, and New York City as part of its global rollout strategy.

“At its core, Purple is about celebrating African dance music culture in a way that feels immersive, intentional, and globally connected,” said Ewurama Dadson, Project Operations Lead (Ghana) for the festival.

The festival will spotlight a range of contemporary African dance sounds shaping nightlife and music scenes across the continent and beyond, including Afrobeats, Amapiano, Gqom, 3-step, Afro house, electronic fusion, Ghanapiano, and other alternative dance genres.

The Accra edition of Purple will feature a headline performance by DJ Maphorisa, alongside acts such as Jazzwrld x Thukuthela, Eeque, Jnr SA, Uncool MC, Kojo Manuel, DJ Millzy, Afrolektra, Que Soundz, DJ Williamo, Michael Nichols, the Accra mayor, and Tim Jeezy.

The Accra event is scheduled for Saturday, 16 May, at Underbridge Annex in East Legon.

Organisers say Purple is also intended to function as a broader cultural platform, with planned collaborations across fashion, media, food, and contemporary African creative industries, aimed at deepening engagement within youth culture spaces.

As the rollout continues across multiple cities, GBP says Purple represents both a continuation of its six-year legacy and a strategic shift towards positioning African dance music culture within a global entertainment ecosystem.
