Singer Asiama has emerged as one of the standout breakthrough acts at the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards after winning Best Male Vocal Performance with his debut single Akoma.

Released on 9 May 2025, the song returned exactly a year later on the same date with a TGMA win, marking a full-circle moment for the artiste.

Akoma, which also earned a nomination for Record of the Year, was written as a deeply personal prayer song to Nana Nyame before Asiama embarked on his professional music journey.

The song represents a series of milestones for the singer, serving as his debut single, first award nomination and first major TGMA win.

Many listeners encountered Asiama for the first time through Akoma, with his vocals drawing attention for their emotional restraint and depth.

Born Emmanuel Asiamah Mensah in Effiduase and raised in Kumasi, Asiama grew up immersed in gospel music, hymns, choral harmonies and Highlife traditions.

At the age of 12, he appeared on the X Factor competition, where he impressed judges including Reggie Rockstone, M.I Abaga and the late Onyeka Onwenu.

The experience later influenced his decision to approach music patiently and intentionally.

Music producer and mentor Kwame Yeboah has described Asiama as “a rare gem”.

The artistic direction around Asiama has also been shaped by Be.love, led by founder Tina “Belove” Atiemo, whose work focuses on emotionally immersive and symbolic storytelling.
