Media personality George Quaye has defended event organisers against criticism over celebrity fashion choices on red carpets, arguing that responsibility for outfits worn at major events lies with the individuals and their stylists, not organisers.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Tuesday, 12 May, Quaye said backlash following red carpet appearances at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) was misplaced when directed at organisers such as Charterhouse.

He questioned why organisers should be held accountable for what celebrities choose to wear.

“How are you now blaming Edem for what George Quaye decided to wear? Somebody said Dr Likey dressed like he was going to the washing bay. How’s that Charterhouse’s problem?” he said.

Quaye argued that fashion criticism should be directed at the celebrities themselves and the professionals who style them, rather than event planners.

“If you are uncomfortable with what people wore to the event, fight the people. Sometimes we also ought to learn to know where to put the blame,” he added.

He further urged Ghanaian fashion designers to leverage major entertainment platforms such as the TGMA to gain visibility by styling high-profile personalities on red carpets.

According to him, such events present valuable opportunities for designers to showcase their work and build industry recognition.
