Ghanaian-born disc jockey DJ Slim Jerry has released a new Afrobeats-inspired single titled Abonteen, a track that blends energetic rhythms with Afro House influences as he seeks to push the boundaries of African music globally.

The song, named after the Akan word for “outside”, captures the energy of outdoor social life and the vibrant atmosphere associated with celebrations and nightlife.

Born Jerry Adu, DJ Slim Jerry has spent more than two decades promoting the sound of Accra in New York, becoming one of the Bronx’s most recognised Ghanaian DJs.

Over the years, he has shared stages with several notable African artistes, including Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, R2Bees, Prince Bright, Tinny, Obrafour, DJ Tunez and Kizz Daniel.

The release comes at a time when global demand for Afrobeats continues to rise, with the genre attracting audiences across cities including New York, London, Lagos and Accra.

According to Slim Jerry, Abonteen is intended to capture the excitement and energy associated with stepping outdoors during the summer season.

“‘Abonteen’ is for anyone who knows what it feels like when the warmth hits and it’s time to step outside for a ride,” he said. “That fizzy energy is bottled up in this song.”

The DJ described the track as a “love letter to every soul who lives for the moment”.

With its upbeat melodies and dance-inspired rhythms, Abonteen is expected to become one of the standout Afrobeats tracks of the season.
