Frederick Kumi, widely known as Abu Trica, has been released from custody after meeting strict bail conditions set by an Accra High Court in a case linked to an extradition request from the United States over alleged romance fraud charges.

His lawyer, Papa Kofi Essel, confirmed the release on Friday, saying Kumi secured his freedom after fulfilling the bail requirements.

“He was released today, May 15. Ghana is advancing in recognising the fundamental human rights of citizens, and the rule of law is working,” Essel told Citi News.

The court had earlier granted bail in the sum of GH¢30 million, with two justified sureties, reflecting the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing extradition proceedings.

Kumi, who has been in police custody since December 2025, is wanted in connection with alleged online romance fraud offences being pursued by US authorities.

Extradition cases in Ghana typically involve a lengthy legal process, during which courts assess both the validity of foreign requests and compliance with domestic legal safeguards.

The case has drawn public attention due to the size of the bail and the international dimension of the allegations.

Authorities have not yet indicated when the next hearing will take place.
