Nana Bonsu-Kyeretwie, an aspiring Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is making a strong case for his candidacy, describing himself as “undoubtedly grassroots” candidate ahead of the party’s internal elections.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (20 May), Bonsu-Kyeretwie who currently serves as a vice chairman in the Manhyia South constiuency said the upcoming internal contests have shown the growing influence of grassroots members within the party, noting that many aspirants are increasingly highlighting their connection to the party base.

He believes the trend demonstrates the significant role grassroots members play in shaping leadership decisions during the party’s electoral season.

He said the time had come for grassroots members to exercise that influence by electing leaders who had remained connected to them both during the party’s period in government and in opposition.

Kyeretwie urged party members not to make mistakes in exercising what he described as their power, insisting that leadership choices should be based on commitment and loyalty to the base.

He also reaffirmed his intention to contest for the Ashanti Regional Deputy Secretary position, presenting himself as a candidate closely identified with grassroots structures.

His remarks come as the NPP prepares for internal elections as part of its restructuring efforts while in opposition.
