About two hundred small and medium size Enterprises, SME business owners in Koforidua in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region, have participated in a two-day business clinic organised by MTN Ghana, to equip them with practical skills and mentorship to grow their businesses.
The initiative, the first of its kind in the region, forms part of MTN Ghana’s efforts to address youth unemployment and strengthen small businesses across the region.
The programme also focuses on long-term support through mentorship and capacity-building to ensure business sustainability.
Speaking to the media, the Senior Manager for SME Sales at MTN Business, Mohammed Abubakari-Sidick, said the clinic forms part of the MTN SME Accelerate Programme, which seeks to promote and support SMEs because of their critical role in Ghana’s socio-economic development.
According to him, although SMEs continue to contribute significantly to the economy, many businesses still face technological challenges that limit their growth and competitiveness.
“MTN aims to bridge that gap through training and digital support initiatives”he said.
Mr. Abubakari-Sidick also expressed concern that many small business owners fail to separate personal finances from business finances, affecting the survival and growth of their enterprises.
He said MTN considers it part of its corporate social responsibility to educate entrepreneurs on sound financial management and other essential business practices to strengthen the economy.
A participant who is a beautician in Koforidua, Millicent Ayitey, said the training had broadened her knowledge in managing and expanding her business.
Participants received training in financial management, branding, bookkeeping, packaging, and accessing funding opportunities, all aimed at helping them build competitive and sustainable businesses. MTN Ghana launched the 2026 edition of its SME Accelerate programme in March this year, as part of its commitment to supporting SMEs to grow, digitize, and compete effectively in an evolving global economy.
