Ghanaian coach Charles Akonnor has guided Gor Mahia to a historic 22nd Kenyan Premier League title, sealing the championship with two matches still remaining in the season.

The coronation was confirmed on Sunday, May 24, 2026, after nearest rivals AFC Leopards suffered a 2–1 defeat to APS Bomet. The result left Leopards four points behind with just one game left to play, while Gor Mahia still have two fixtures in hand—making their lead mathematically unassailable.

Gor Mahia sit firmly at the summit with 68 points. Their Week 33 fixture against Mara Sugar in Homa Bay had earlier been postponed due to a court-related issue, but the disruption did little to slow their charge toward the title.

Since taking charge in August 2025, Akonnor has overseen a remarkable transformation at the club, restoring consistency and a competitive edge. His technical team includes assistant coach Bismark Kofi Mensah, goalkeeping coach Ben Owu, and video analyst Joshua Kofi Boafo.

Ghanaian influence has also been central to the team’s success on the pitch, with contributions from Enock Morrison, George Amonoo, Ebenezer Adukwaw, and Ebenezer Assifuah playing key roles throughout the campaign.

The former Ghana international, who has previously managed Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, is now expected to lead Gor Mahia into next season’s CAF Champions League campaign as the Kenyan giants turn their attention to continental football after another dominant domestic season.
