The Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) has announced the commencement of the renewal process for gold trading licences, introducing new eligibility requirements for operators in the sector.
In a public notice issued on May 25, 2026, GOLDBOD said the exercise will begin on the same date and will apply to all Buying Licence holders whose current permits are due to expire within the next three months.
The authority indicated that all renewal applications must be submitted exclusively through its official online licensing portal at www.goldbod.gov.gh/licensing.
As part of the renewal process, applicants are required to meet minimum trading volume thresholds depending on their licence category.
T1 licence holders must demonstrate a minimum trading volume of 2 kilograms within the preceding 12 months, while T2 licence holders must show at least 5 kilograms over the same period.
For Self-Finance Aggregator licence holders, GOLDBOD has set a requirement of at least one metric tonne of gold traded within the past year.
In addition to the trading thresholds, applicants must be fully compliant with all licensing conditions and must not have breached any regulatory obligations during their period of operation.
GOLDBOD further stated that applicants who submit renewal applications and pay the required fees may be permitted to continue trading while their applications are being reviewed.
However, it stressed that continued trading will remain subject to final approval after assessment, and the Authority reserves the right to request additional documentation where necessary.
GOLDBOD urged all licence holders to ensure timely compliance with the renewal requirements to avoid disruptions in their operations.
