The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has expanded its consumer education and petroleum safety campaign to parts of the Volta and Ashanti regions as part of efforts to improve public awareness on fuel safety and consumer protection.
The exercise, led by the Authority’s Consumer Services Directorate, involved engagements with traders, transport operators, women’s groups, and students in selected markets, transport terminals, and tertiary institutions.
The campaign focused on petroleum safety practices, fuel quality assurance, proper handling of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), consumer rights, and complaint reporting procedures.
Officials also educated the public on the dangers associated with fuel siphoning from accident scenes involving Bulk Road Vehicles.
Speaking during the engagements, the Director of Consumer Services at the NPA, Eunice Budu-Nyarko, urged motorists and fuel consumers to remain vigilant when purchasing fuel.
She advised consumers to always verify the type of fuel being dispensed, monitor pump readings, and demand receipts after every transaction.
In the Volta Region, the campaign covered the Ho Market and Lorry Park, Ho Technical University, Ho Nursing Training College and women’s groups in Hohoe.
The Ashanti Regional exercise also took the team to Bantama Market, Fomena Nursing Training College, Kumasi Technical University, and the Anyinasuo Campus of the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College.
Technical presentations during the outreach were delivered by Ing. Johnson Gbagbo Jnr., Head of Consumer Data Analytics and Market Intelligence, and Maureen Adwoa Duori, Head of Consumer Education and Stakeholder Engagement.
The campaign was supported by regional managers and staff of the authority.
