The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that each member of Ghana’s Black Stars squad will receive an appearance fee of $100,000 ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana are set to feature at the 23rd edition of the global tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico later this summer.

Speaking on TV3, Mr Adams disclosed the financial package being put together for players representing the country at the tournament.

“The appearance fee for the Black Stars players has been pegged at $100,000 per player,” he said.

The announcement comes as government awaits the release of a GH¢150 million World Cup budget from the Ministry of Finance to support Ghana’s participation in the competition.

The Black Stars are currently in Cardiff, where preparations are ongoing ahead of the tournament. The team will step up their build-up with a friendly against Wales on June 2, while the final 26-man squad is expected to be named on June 1.

Mr Adams also called for strong national support as Ghana prepares for its fifth World Cup appearance.

“All I want is the spirit of the nation behind the team,” he said.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, and wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

The team will be aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic quarter-final run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
