Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante says he is determined to play his part in helping Ghana progress beyond the group stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will compete at the 23rd edition of the global tournament, set to be hosted across the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer. The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

Having suffered group-stage exits at the 2014 and 2022 World Cups in Brazil and Qatar respectively, Thomas-Asante says the squad is focused on ending that run and securing qualification to the next stage for the first time since 2010 in South Africa.

Speaking to Ghana FA Media, the Coventry City striker stressed his commitment to the national team’s ambitions.

“So, I want to do everything to give us the best chance to progress in the tournament,” he said. “We don’t just want to go there and turn up for no reason. We want to be successful, so we’re preparing for that.”

Thomas-Asante also praised the influence of head coach Carlos Queiroz, highlighting the squad’s willingness to adapt to his tactical ideas.

“All of us are listening to how he wants us to play and understanding his ideas. So it’s been a blessing,” the Coventry City striker added.

The Black Stars are currently camped in Cardiff as preparations continue for their international friendly against Wales on June 2 at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Ahead of the encounter, Queiroz is expected to announce his final 26-man squad for the World Cup.

Ghana will begin their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before taking on England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. The four-time African champions will wrap up their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
