Ghana’s 2026 World Cup squad is the weakest the country has assembled for a major tournament in two decades, according to sports analyst Hans Mensah Andoh.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (2 June), Andoh said the 26-man squad lacks both quality and cohesion compared to previous Black Stars teams.
“I don’t think we’ve taken a weaker team to a tournament in the last 20 years,” he said, referencing both Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup campaigns.
He noted that beyond individual quality, the team also suffers from poor cohesion, reflecting broader structural challenges in Ghanaian football.
“It’s not just the individuals — in terms of team cohesion as well, this is not the strongest we’ve had in a very long time,” he added.
Despite the criticism, Andoh acknowledged that the current squad may still represent the best available pool of players, with only a few contentious omissions.
“At this moment, this is probably the best we can parade,” he said.
The squad has generated mixed reactions among fans, with confidence levels described as low ahead of the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
