American singer Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a temporary restraining order after what court documents describe as repeated and alarming incidents involving a man who allegedly targeted her home in Los Angeles.

Court filings reviewed by CBS, the BBC’s US partner, indicate that Carpenter is seeking a permanent court order against William Applegate over multiple alleged attempts to access her property.

According to the documents, Applegate is said to have attempted to force entry into her home last month and returned on several occasions despite security intervention.

Carpenter stated in her filing that the incidents left her in “significant and ongoing fear” and caused “severe and ongoing emotional distress”.

One account detailed in the court documents alleges that Applegate approached the front door after entering a neighbouring property without permission, tried to open it, rang the doorbell and refused to leave until police arrived.

He is also accused of returning within 24 hours and loitering outside the residence for several hours before coming back again the following day.

A judge has issued an order requiring him to stay at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her home, vehicle, workplace and other residents at the property.

A further hearing is scheduled for June 17, while Applegate is also expected to appear in criminal court the following day in connection with a separate trespassing arrest.

Authorities reportedly describe the behaviour as showing signs of a “fixated, obsessional” pattern.
