Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has urged Ghana’s squad to rise to the occasion and demonstrate their quality as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Ghana are among a record ten African nations heading to the tournament and have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama — a challenging lineup for the four-time African champions.

Following a 1-1 draw with Wales at Cardiff City Stadium in their recent build-up, Ayew stressed the need for belief and readiness ahead of the global showpiece.

“We have to prove ourselves, and we have to show that we have quality, and we have to be ready for the challenge,” he told FIFA.

He added that external doubts should serve as added motivation for the squad as they aim to make an impact on the world stage.

“We all know it’s going to be difficult, but we are ready. Obviously, I know people don’t think that we will do well, so that is good,” the former Leicester City forward added. 

The Black Stars have already arrived in the United States as they step up preparations for the tournament. Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before taking on England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium, and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

Before the tournament kicks off, Ghana will play a final warm-up match against Jamaica on June 10 as part of their final tune-up.
