GBC secures exclusive free-to-air broadcast rights for FIFA World Cup 2026

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), with support from the Government of Ghana, has secured exclusive terrestrial (Free-To-Air) broadcast rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ tournament.

The arrangement is aimed at ensuring that all Ghanaians have free access to the global football showpiece and can follow the progress of the Black Stars throughout the competition.

As part of the rollout, GBC has established a National Broadcast Consortium to coordinate coverage of the tournament. The initiative, undertaken at the request of government, brings together selected media partners under a shared technical, marketing and broadcasting framework designed to maximise national reach.

The authorised television partners under the consortium include GBC Channels (GTV, GTV Sports+, Garden City TV and Obonu TV), Multimedia Group (Adom TV and Joy Prime), EIB Network (GHOne TV and Agoo TV), Ignite Media (Metro TV and Original TV), Media General (TV3 and Onua TV), as well as Max TV, Sporty TV, Woezor TV and UTV.

According to GBC, radio stations wishing to broadcast World Cup matches must obtain a sub-licence from the corporation, warning that unauthorised radio broadcasts are strictly prohibited. Licensing enquiries can be made via 030 395 9605, 055 252 0699 or 020 398 0634.

The consortium also announced commercial and sponsorship opportunities for brands seeking to leverage the tournament’s global audience, with advertising packages spanning television, radio and digital platforms.

GBC, FIFA and New World TV have further cautioned that any unauthorised broadcast, streaming, public viewing or commercial distribution of World Cup content in Ghana will attract legal and regulatory action.

The corporation expressed appreciation to government and stakeholders for their support in securing the rights, describing the development as a major step in making the tournament widely accessible to Ghanaian households.
