The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey has announced plans for work to continue on the new Eastern Regional Hospital project which began in 2020.

According to her, President John Dramani Mahama has given directive for the contractors to return to site.

Awartey made the announcement at the launch of centenary anniversary celebration of the Eastern Regional hospital in Koforidua the regional capital. It was on the theme, “A centenary of quality healthcare, innovation and excellence”.

The new hospital project is a major healthcare infrastructure development, aimed at providing a modern six hundred before capital teaching hospital for the region.

Awartey indicated that the resumption demonstrates government’s resolve to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality services for the people of the Region and beyond.

The centenary celebration she noted should provide an opportunity to reaffirm their resolve to building a stronger and more robust healthcare system.

She added that the future of healthcare demands continuous investment in infrastructure, technology, research, workforce development and patient-centered care.

The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Saanwie Suntaa Aiden said the fac is recognized as one of the best hospitals in the country.

He called on the staff to do more to maintain the status and even upgrade to a teaching hospital as desired while they respond to evolving healthcare needs of their patients.

The Eastern Regional hospital was established in 1926 and has evolved to one of country’s leading referral hospitals providing quality healthcare services to countless individuals and families.

The centenary celebration is a year long celebration interspersed with various activities including talks.

Earlier staff of the Hospital went on a float in the principal street of Koforidua to create awareness about the launch.
