Preparations for Ghana’s 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration have received a major boost following the donation of a brand-new Nissan pickup truck, 20 motorcycles and an agricultural tractor by the EEZZY Group Foundation to support this year’s awards scheme.

The items were presented to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Accra as part of the Foundation’s commitment to supporting Ghanaian farmers and advancing the government’s agricultural transformation agenda.

Receiving the items on behalf of the government, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, described the donation as one of the largest corporate contributions towards the 2026 National Farmers’ Day celebration.

He stressed the importance of agriculture to Ghana’s economy, noting that the sector remains central to food security and national development.

“When agriculture goes wrong, nothing else in this country can go right because every Ghanaian depends on food. Our farmers work day and night to ensure food security, yet they deserve greater recognition and support,” he said.

The Minister said President John Dramani Mahama is committed to making National Farmers’ Day a truly national celebration that adequately rewards farmers for their contribution to the country.

He announced that the National Best Farmer for 2026 will receive an enhanced prize package, including a brand-new Nissan pickup truck donated by EEZZY Group Foundation, a GH¢1.2 million cash prize, a brand-new agricultural tractor with accessories from the Foundation, as well as assorted farm inputs and equipment.

Mr Opoku also disclosed that the Ministry had received two additional pickup trucks from other corporate partners, bringing the total number of pickup trucks available for the awards scheme to three.

He added that a 50-seater bus would also be awarded to Ghana’s Best Senior High School in Practical Agriculture.

Beyond the flagship prizes, EEZZY Group Foundation donated 20 motorcycles to support mobility and operational activities linked to the National Farmers’ Day programme and agricultural initiatives.

The Minister said the growing support from private sector organisations demonstrates increased confidence in the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

He encouraged more businesses, institutions and individuals to contribute towards the celebration scheduled for December 4, 2026.

Mr Opoku assured the public that all donations received would be channelled directly to farmers and award beneficiaries.

“Last year every single donation reached the farmers. Not one item remained at the Ministry. We shall do the same this year. We are only a conduit to ensure these resources reach the hardworking farmers they are intended for,” he said.

He further announced that the National Farmers’ Day Planning Committee, chaired by Hon. John Dumelo, would soon release official bank account details to allow individuals and organisations to support the initiative.

The Ministry, he added, would publicly account for all cash and in-kind donations received at the end of the fundraising campaign.

Mr Opoku expressed appreciation to Mr Mohammed Raii and the EEZZY Group Foundation for their contribution, describing the donation as a demonstration of strong corporate commitment to Ghana’s farmers.

The 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration, under the theme “Our Farmers, Our Food, Our Future,” is expected to recognise outstanding farmers while promoting investment in agriculture, food security and economic transformation.
