Media personality and creative industry advocate Ramatu Gumah has been appointed Head of Diaspora Affairs and Brand Ambassador for the Nollywood Africa in Diaspora/Ghana Food and Film Festival, taking on a leadership role aimed at strengthening cultural and creative ties between Africa and its global diaspora.
According to an official appointment letter, Gumah’s appointment took effect on 1 May 2026 and will run until 1 May 2028, with the option of renewal.
In her new role, she will oversee the planning and execution of the festival’s activities in Ghana while coordinating diaspora engagement programmes across Africa.
Her responsibilities will also include building strategic partnerships, engaging stakeholders and serving as the official representative of the Nollywood African Network in promoting the organisation’s objectives.
The appointment comes as organisers prepare for the 2027 Nollywood-Africa in Diaspora Film and Food Festival and Awards, an event designed to celebrate African storytelling alongside the continent’s rich culinary traditions.
Organisers say the festival seeks to go beyond the traditional film festival format by bringing together cinema, music, fashion, food and culture on one platform to deepen connections between Africans on the continent and those living abroad.
The initiative also aims to create new opportunities for filmmakers, entrepreneurs, artists and other creative professionals while promoting collaboration, cultural preservation and business networking.
According to the festival’s concept document, the event is intended to serve as a bridge between Africa and its diaspora by showcasing African creativity to international audiences and encouraging greater cultural exchange.
Organisers expressed confidence that Gumah’s background in media, communications and stakeholder engagement would help expand the festival’s reach and strengthen its presence within Ghana’s creative ecosystem.
Her role is expected to focus on attracting international participation, forging partnerships and supporting the festival’s long-term vision of becoming a leading platform for African culture and creative enterprise.
The appointment also underscores the growing role of cultural diplomacy within Africa’s creative industries, where film, music, food and fashion are increasingly being leveraged to promote tourism, investment and cross-border collaboration.
Preparations for the 2027 festival are underway, with organisers hoping the event will evolve into a flagship international celebration connecting African creatives with audiences and partners across the world.
