Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has commended the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team, popularly known as “Black Maria”, for its role in combating crime and improving security across communities in the Ashanti Region.
The commendation came during a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace by the team, led by Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Arthur Osei-Akoto.
Otumfuo said the intelligence-led operations carried out by the unit had helped restore calm in communities previously affected by criminal activity.
“I want to commend you for the excellent work you are doing. Your efforts are in the interest of Ghana and contribute to the safety and well-being of us all,” the Asantehene said.
He said the team’s selection by the Inspector-General of Police reflected confidence in its capabilities and urged officers to remain committed to protecting lives and property.
“This is a responsibility that requires commitment, dedication, service and love for the country,” he added.
The Asantehene also encouraged the officers to continue working closely with traditional authorities and local communities to sustain peace and security across the region.
He further appealed to residents to support the police by volunteering credible information to assist ongoing efforts to combat crime.
