The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed plans to advocate for the establishment of a single standing Management Committee to oversee the activities of all Ghana’s national teams.

The proposal, according to the Buem Member of Parliament, is aimed at improving coordination, consistency, and the overall management of the various national teams, from the juvenile sides to the senior teams.

Over the years, Ghana has operated with separate Management Committees for each national team, but Mr Adams believes a unified structure would help address some of the challenges affecting the teams.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM on Thursday, the Sports Minister said the country needs to rethink the current system, particularly regarding the administration of national teams and the payment of winning bonuses.

As a country, I believe we need to have a conversation about these winning bonuses. It is my personal worry, and again, not only the player bonuses but also the Management Teams of the national teams,” he said.

Mr Adams explained that a permanent Management Team made up of both male and female representatives would have a better understanding of the developmental pathway of players and the challenges facing teams at different levels.

“My view and what I have been canvassing is that we should have one Management Team for all our national teams, and then when events are happening, the standing Management Team can appoint other people to assist when there are many events happening around the same time, and that will be so because the members of the Management Team are not enough to cover all the activities that are happening, we can recruit others to represent the Management Team to represent the other assignment.”

He suggested that the committee could consist of seven or 11 members who would provide oversight for all national teams, while additional personnel could be brought in when multiple competitions take place simultaneously.

“If maybe we have a seven-member or 11-member Management Team of males and females for all our national teams, I believe there will be proper coordination.”

The Minister believes the arrangement would also improve player development by allowing the same management structure to follow the progression of teams from the youth levels through to the senior national sides.

“We understand that the U-15 is a development level, and we will understand how we transition from that to U-17; one Management Team will be able to understand the challenges that confront the various national teams at various levels, so I am looking to be pushing this: let’s all have one Management Team for all the national teams, and if there many competitions happening at the same time, and the members of the Management Team are not enough, we can always recruit others to come join,” the Buem MP added.

Mr Adams added that he intends to continue pushing the idea as part of efforts to reform the administration of Ghana’s national teams.
