Songstress Gyakie has clarified that she will not be performing at this year’s KNUST SRC Week after an unofficial social media page falsely announced her as one of the event’s performers.

The confusion began when the unofficial KNUST page claimed the “Something” hitmaker, who is an alumna of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was set to perform for the first time at the university’s SRC Week since graduating in 2021.

The post also revisited a painful moment from Gyakie’s early career, alleging that she was booed during her first performance as a student musician at Republic Hall Week in 2019, leaving her in tears. It suggested that thousands of KNUST students were now eager to witness her triumphant return to the same campus.

However, Gyakie swiftly dismissed the claim in a response to the post.

“Unfortunately, I’m not performing tonight. Hopefully, KNUST SRC acknowledges the hard work and gets things done the right way,” she wrote.

Following the singer’s response, the official KNUST SRC page distanced itself from the announcement, describing the publication as misinformation.

The student leadership assured Gyakie and the public that the matter would be addressed, stressing that the unofficial page had no authority to make such announcements on behalf of the SRC.

The development has sparked conversations on social media about the importance of verifying event information before sharing it, especially when it concerns public figures and official university programmes.
