Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak have appointed former Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingson as the club’s new goalkeepers’ coach ahead of the 2026/27 football season.

The Rainbow Club announced the appointment on Monday, July 27, through their official X (formerly Twitter) account, welcoming the former Ghana international back to the club.

“A legend returns. From guarding the post to grooming the next generation. Welcome home, Richard Kingson, our new Goalkeepers’ Coach,” the club posted.

Kingson joins the technical team of newly appointed head coach Nebojsa Kapor, who has signed a two-year contract with the Accra-based giants as the club begins preparations for the new campaign.

The 47-year-old brings a wealth of experience and international pedigree to Hearts of Oak following a distinguished playing career that established him as one of Ghana’s most respected goalkeepers.

A key figure for the Black Stars, Kingson earned more than 90 caps for Ghana and represented the country at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.

He played a vital role in Ghana’s historic run to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and also featured prominently in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

At club level, Kingson enjoyed a successful career across Europe, with spells in Turkey, Sweden, England and Cyprus, where he gained valuable experience competing at different levels of the game.

His return to Hearts of Oak is expected to strengthen the club’s goalkeeping department as the Phobians aim to compete for major honours in the upcoming season.

Hearts of Oak will begin their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign at home against Berekum Chelsea, with the new season scheduled to kick off between September 4 and 7, 2026, and end on the weekend of May 28–31, 2027.
