Bibiani Gold Stars Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Akwasi Adu, believes the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should wait until after the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers before deciding on the future of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz.

The experienced Portuguese tactician was appointed on a short-term contract ahead of Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March after a disappointing run of results.

Queiroz guided the Black Stars to their first World Cup knockout stage appearance since 2010, with Ghana reaching the Round of 32 before being eliminated by Colombia.

Following the tournament, the former Iran and Egypt coach appeared to suggest he was leaving his position after posting a message on social media that was widely interpreted as a farewell statement.

However, Queiroz later dismissed reports that he had stepped down, insisting he remained in charge.

President John Dramani Mahama has called on authorities to persuade the 73-year-old coach to continue leading the national team, but Akwasi Adu believes his future should be assessed based on Ghana’s performance in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

“Decision on sacking Carlos Queiroz should be considered after AFCON qualifiers,” Adu told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

The Black Stars will now turn their attention to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, which begin in September, as they aim to return to Africa’s biggest football tournament after missing the 2025 edition.

Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside Gambia, Ivory Coast and Somalia, with the team hoping to secure qualification under Queiroz’s guidance.
