The President of the UK PhD Cohort, Prince Komla Bansah, says Ghanaian students sponsored by the Ghana Scholarships Authority will stage a major protest in London on July 30 over prolonged delays in tuition and stipend payments.

Speaking on theAsaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (28 July), Bansah said the demonstration would take place at the Ghana High Commission, the BBC headquarters, the UK Parliament and No. 10 Downing Street.

He said the protest follows what he described as nearly 40 months of unpaid stipends despite repeated engagements with Ghanaian authorities.

According to him, students have petitioned government officials, including the High Commissioner to the UK, without seeing meaningful progress.

“We’ve exhausted every avenue. Enough is enough,” he said.

Bansah alleged that several students have been forced to withdraw from their academic programmes, while others have been unable to pay rent or afford daily living expenses.

He said some participants intend to carry blankets and sleep outside the Ghana High Commission to highlight the hardships they face.

The UK PhD Cohort president claimed previous assurances that funds had been released failed to materialise, adding that students were still waiting for payments weeks after the announcement.

He also alleged that some universities are becoming reluctant to admit Ghana Scholarship Authority-sponsored students because of the payment delays.

Bansah described the situation as damaging both to students and Ghana’s international reputation.
