The Western North Regional Health Directorate has raised an alarm about the increasing number of hepatitis cases in the region, urging Ghanaians to visit health facilities for regular medical check-ups.
There has been a slight increase in cases in 2025 compared to 2024.
During the commemoration of World Hepatitis Day in Bibiani, within the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, the Regional Health Director, Dr. Paulina Clara Appiah, reported that the region has recorded 693 cases of hepatitis, which reflects a minor rise from the previous year.
She called on Ghanaians to prioritize their health by utilizing medical services for routine check-ups.
Dr. Appiah also highlighted the causes of hepatitis, explaining that injuries from sharp objects and unhygienic practices in salons can contribute to the spread of the disease.
She urged the public to exercise caution in order to prevent infection.
