Founder of Konnected Minds, Derrick Abaitey, has urged digital content creators to focus more on producing positive and meaningful content that educates, inspires and creates value for society.

Speaking on The Career Trail Season 4 on Joy Learning TV and JoyNews, Derrick said his decision to start Konnected Minds was driven by a desire to share knowledge and create deeper conversations beyond everyday online discussions.

He explained that his podcast journey began in 2018 while he was living in the United Kingdom after discovering a mobile application that allowed users to create podcasts using only their phones.

“I discovered that I could talk about my journey on an app. It was an advert on my phone, Anchor.fm. They said you can start a podcast on your phone, so I picked up my phone and started,” he recalled.

Without a studio or professional equipment, Abaitey began recording episodes where he shared lessons from his personal experiences.

“I would pick up my phone and say, ‘Hi, my name is Derrick Abaitey, and today I want to talk to you about the burning desire.’ That was my first podcast in 2018,” he said.

However, he paused the project after recording about three episodes as he prepared to relocate to Ghana and focused on settling his family.

“I stopped at about episode three because I had to do all this preparation to move to Ghana. We had to build a house, make sure everything was fine, and make sure the kids were okay,” he explained.

After relocating to Ghana, Derrick revived the idea, transforming what was initially known as the Derrick Abaitey Podcast into Konnected Minds — a platform dedicated to sharing inspiring stories through meaningful conversations.

“Konnected Minds is just telling the stories of people like you’ve never heard it before. It’s like a lecture room on your TV screen. If you can’t get to meet a lecturer, you can listen to them,” he said.

While acknowledging the growth of podcasts in Ghana, Abaitey said the industry needs more creators who prioritise content that positively impacts audiences.

“After Konnected Minds, there have been a lot of podcasts trying to do the same thing we are doing in Ghana, but that’s cool,” he said.

“What I think needs to happen is we need more people to do positive content,” he added.

The entrepreneur also expressed concern about the spread of misinformation online, calling on content creators and media organisations to verify information before sharing it.

“Today you can’t control what somebody posts on the internet. Unfortunately, there are even some media houses that are not verifying the information people have posted on their socials,” he noted.

Derrick Abaitey believes the future of digital media should go beyond chasing views and engagement, with creators focusing on conversations that educate, inspire and leave a lasting impact.
