The Member of Parliament for Walewale Constituency, Alhaji Dr. Mahama Tia Abdul-Kabiru, has called on students from the area who have gained admission to public tertiary institutions in Ghana to apply for scholarships to support their education.

According to Dr. Abdul-Kabiru, the initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and helping students achieve their academic goals without challenges that could affect their performance.

The scholarship is open to students from the Walewale Constituency in the North East Region who are pursuing tertiary education in any part of the country.

In 2025, Dr. Abdul-Kabiru launched an undergraduate scholarship scheme in Walewale that benefited 148 students across the constituency. The selection process was carried out without political bias.

The MP says this new round of scholarship applications will go a long way toward helping beneficiaries pay their academic fees and achieve their educational goals.

Persons with disabilities at the tertiary level are also encouraged to apply.

The scholarships will be funded from the MP’s share of the Common Fund. The Assembly will need to endorse the list before funds can be released to selected beneficiaries.

Unlike the first disbursement, where 148 students benefited, the MP has not yet announced how many students will benefit in this current round.

Support for Dry Season Farmers
In addition to education, Dr. Abdul-Kabiru has also launched support for dry season farmers.

In 2025, the MP subsidized the cost of irrigation pump machines by 50% for farmers in the area to help boost dry season farming.

A similar support package is being rolled out this year to assist another batch of dry season farmers with pump machines.
