KUMASI, Ghana, Aug 10, 2026 — Police in Ghana’s Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man over an alleged attempted armed robbery along the Hiakose-Newense stretch in the Manso Nkwanta District.
The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was arrested after seeking medical treatment for a gunshot wound he allegedly sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7.
According to the Nkawie Divisional Police Command, its operations patrol team received information at about 11:00 pm that an armed robbery was taking place along the road.
Officers who responded to the distress call heard gunshots as they approached the area.
Police said they spotted one of the suspected robbers fleeing into a nearby bush with a bag and pursued him.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the robbery victims.
Police later received information that one of the suspected robbers had sought treatment at a medical facility after sustaining a gunshot wound.
Officers went to the facility and arrested Nsiah, who was found to have suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock.
He is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.
The Nkawie Divisional Police Command said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify and arrest other suspects believed to have been involved.
