Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has confirmed that the association is still in talks with other coaches as it weighs its options for the vacant Black Stars coaching position.

The future of Carlos Queiroz remains uncertain despite the veteran Portuguese coach guiding Ghana to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The 73-year-old was appointed in April on a short-term contract after replacing Otto Addo, with his immediate task being to lead the Black Stars at the World Cup.

Although there had been expectations that Queiroz would be retained on a long-term basis following Ghana’s World Cup campaign, negotiations have reportedly stalled over his demands.

Oduro Sarfo has now revealed that the GFA is exploring alternative options as it continues discussions over the next head coach of the senior national team.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is still in talks with other coaches for the Black Stars job,” Oduro Sarfo told Kumasi-based Ezra Radio.

The Black Stars are expected to return to competitive action in September when they begin their qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana has been drawn in Group C alongside West African neighbours Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia and Somalia.

The four-time African champions will be hoping to secure qualification for the continental showpiece after missing out on the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
