New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has rejected what he described as a purported “DMB list” for the party’s Ashanti Regional elections, warning delegates against using factional considerations in the 15 August contest.

In a Facebook post, Ofosu Nkansah urged party members to disregard any list allegedly associated with former NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, arguing that the party should prioritise competence and unity.

“Throw any so called DMB list for Ashanti into the dustbin 🗑. That’s where it belongs,” he wrote.

His comments come ahead of the Ashanti Regional NPP elections scheduled for August 15, where delegates are expected to elect regional executives.

Ofosu Nkansah also questioned why a purported Bawumia-aligned list would favour one candidate over another when, according to him, both candidates in the regional organiser contest were associated with Dr Bawumia.

“So for Regional organiser for example that both Raph and Kwakwa are DMB boys, why would he support one against the other,” he wrote.

The NPP stalwart said the party’s priority should be selecting candidates capable of strengthening the party’s prospects rather than deepening internal divisions.

“We want competence and unity to win Ashanti massively not factionalism,” he said.

He further dismissed suggestions that Dr Bawumia had favourites in the regional contest.

“Dr Bawumia is for those who can help him win power. He has no favorites,” Mr Ofosu Nkansah wrote.

The comments come as campaigning intensifies ahead of the Ashanti Regional conference, with candidates competing for key executive positions.

The Ashanti Region is traditionally a stronghold of the NPP and is expected to be a crucial battleground for the party as it seeks to rebuild its electoral fortunes ahead of the 2028 general election.
